THE CHILDCARE COORDINATING COUNCIL OF SAN MATEO COUNTY

The Childcare Coordinating Council of San Mateo County (4Cs) has received a generous bequest from the Violet L. King estate of close to $1 million. Ms. King’s gift reflects her long-standing support of children’s issues. This is the largest donation received by the agency in its 49 year history.
“The opportunities that a donation of this amount provides are significant,” said 4Cs’ Executive Director David Fleishman. Ms. King’s generosity will directly benefit the children and families served by 4Cs.” Fleishman added that the non-profit’s board of directors and staff are committed to ensuring that a lasting impact will be made in her name.
4Cs often takes on important and necessary programs that are only partially funded and struggle each year to fill the void. This donation will allow the agency to not only maintain programs but expand services to the community. First on the list will be the return of a Lending Library for child care providers. The Library will provide developmentally appropriate materials to child care providers who might otherwise not have access to them. It will be made available as soon as 4Cs offices can safely reopen to the public.
Mike Lynch, Trustee of the Violet King Trust, acknowledged the apt use for the funds. “Violet would be very happy to know that so many children will directly benefit from the materials and that childcare providers will receive this kind of needed support.”
Sarah Poulain, 4Cs’ Board Chair, recently led the Board of Directors in developing an investment policy that will guide the agency’s use of the funds and future donations. “It was important to have a structure in place that protects this and future gifts while ensuring the availability of funds in order to preserve current services and provide new or expanded programs to the community. This gift provides the agency with both financial security and flexibility that is crucial for all non-profits.”
