After a successful first event, in which hundreds of children received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the Redwood City School District (RCSD) has announced that they will host a second vaccination clinic in early 2022.
The multi-day clinic, which is a collaboration with the San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) and other organizations, will take place in late January with second doses scheduled for February. Vaccinations will again be administered at Hoover School, at 701 Charter St. in Redwood City.
According to a press release from the school district, the event represents a county-wide “effort to provide access to the vaccine for the families it serves.”
Residents can sign up to receive their first dose between January 20-22 and their second dose between February 10-12 (full schedule below). All families within the county are invited, and additional details about the process will be shared once the information becomes available.
First Dose:
- Thursday, January 20, 2022: 2:30-7 p.m.
- Friday, January 21, 2022: 2:30-7 p.m.
- Saturday, January 22, 2022: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Second Dose:
- Thursday, February 10, 2022: 2:30-7 p.m.
- Friday, February 11, 2022: 2:30-7 p.m.
- Saturday, February 12, 2022: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The first district-wide clinic was held in mid-November and saw an overwhelming turnout, with nearly all of the 1,200 appointments claimed. A joint effort between the district, the county and Safeway, the event took place on the blacktop outside Hoover’s new gym.
At the time, Director of Communications, Jorge Quintana, said that the district had put in a request for a second clinic but was waiting on approval.
“Our superintendent, our district is interested in providing this access to our families, to our students,” he said.
Hoover school principal, Ramiro Carranza, was also excited to be hosting county-wide clinic at his school.
“It’s absolutely fantastic,” he said. “This is a great thing for the community.”
Those who attended the November clinic will return to Hoover on Thurs. Dec. 10 for their second dose.
The district also wants to remind families that schools will be closed during the upcoming scheduled holidays. To accommodate, RCSD has adjusted the testing schedule and locations for students and employees, with open testing available on Mon. Dec. 20 and 27 from 1:30-4:15 p.m. at Kennedy School and on Tues. Dec. 21 and 28 from 1:30-4:15 p.m. at Hoover School.
Hoover and Kennedy will be providing testing to all students and employees. Any student and employee from any of RCSD’s 12 schools can visit Hoover or Kennedy. The regular testing schedule will resume on Tues. Jan. 4, 2022 at all RCSD school sites.
