Good morning, Redwood City!

A lively debate

Last night was one of the more energetic and, at times, combative candidate forums that I’ve seen so far this election season. For two hours, the candidates for the Sequoia Union High School District Board of Trustees grappled with everything from student mental health to the fate of honors classes to whether board members should take positions on political issues.

While things were somewhat cordial between the candidates for Area D, it was interesting to see the Area A hopefuls engage in a bit of rivalry. Intrigued? Check out the highlights here.

Women, Life, Freedom

This coming Monday night, members of the community with be gathering at Courthouse Square between 5-8 p.m. for a candlelight vigil honoring the life and legacy of Mahsa Amini. Amini was a 22-year-old Iranian woman who died at the hands of law enforcement earlier this month after being arrested by Iran’s “morality police” for breaking hijab rules.

Since her death, protests have erupted around the world, calling for greater attention to the violence against and oppression of women living in Iran. In the name of “Women, Life, Freedom,” women around the world’s are speaking out and burning their hijabs in solidarity.
