Good morning, Redwood City.
The tragedy in Half Moon Bay has continued to dominate the week. I spent yesterday on the coast, speaking with residents and officials about how they’re responding to the shooting and observing a community in mourning.
For hours, media vans lined Main Street, the usually quaint, peaceful center of this coastside community. Gov. Gavin Newsom, along with many of our regional and state officials, held a press conference during which he spoke empathically against the epidemic of gun violence and shamed officials—Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy, in particular—for not doing more to stop it.
Meanwhile, volunteers and nonprofit staffers worked frantically to gather food, clothing and other supplies for the impacted families. It was, as many people said, truly a community-wide response. You can read more about the press conference and latest news updates here.

Editor's note: The Jan. 24 Redwood City Pulse Express incorrectly stated that Chunli Zhao opened fire in two locations in the Half Moon Bay Area killing seven. In fact, Zhao is presumed innocent until convicted by a jury or judge. He will be arraigned Wednesday afternoon. We regret the error.
