The San Mateo County Historical Association has announced the 2023 Happy San Mateo County Day Poster Contest, inviting residents to create and submit original artwork reflecting life in the county during the first decade of the 20th century.
This year's theme is "Life in San Mateo County in the Aughts (decade of 1900-1909)."
The contest is open to residents of all ages, and entries will be divided into three categories based on the participant's age. Judges will evaluate each submission on criteria such as form and composition, use of color, characterization of the theme, historical accuracy, creativity, and the delivery of the message. All artwork must have a clear connection to the theme and adhere to the historical context of the county in the 1900-1909 period.
The Historical Association has provided participants with a list of suggested topics, including transportation, fashion, inventions, and major events from the Aughts. Participants may also develop their own historically accurate topics related to life in San Mateo County during this time.
Poster submissions are due by Monday, April 10. There is no entry fee.
Entries can be dropped off or mailed to the San Mateo County Historical Association. Digital submissions will not be accepted. The judges will evaluate the entries and announce the winners, whose work will be displayed in a special exhibition.
