Good morning, Redwood City,

Perhaps you caught this story earlier, but it seems to be ruffling many feathers.

The Menlo Circus Club's swanky spot at 190 Park Lane made the list of potential housing sites. Club bigwigs quickly penned a letter to the City Council, expressing their disbelief and pointing out roadblocks, including restrictive building capacities on their grounds. As a side note, they mentioned the club and town ringing in their centennial this year. And the housing drama doesn’t stop there. Though Ravenswood Ave. and Bay Road locations were initially flagged for housing, the council decided to reel it in, eyeing a modest 10 units per acre instead.

Despite state preferences for 20 units per acre, Atherton's move to less dense housing faces criticism. The town cites high land costs as a hurdle for affordable housing. Locals express concerns about traffic noise and changing town character. With two housing plans rejected, Atherton faces a January deadline and potential state interference in zoning if unmet.

Thanks to Sally Cooper for her photo of the view over the bay from Pulgas Ridge on Sunday, July 30.
