Authorities arrested a man on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, commercial burglary, robbery, mayhem, and aggressive assault on a deputy on the 2700 block of El Camino Real in unincorporated Redwood City Thursday, Dec. 14, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Javier Acosta, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, said a sheriff’s deputy was driving south on El Camino Real when the deputy noticed vehicles swerving around a person standing in the middle of the street attempting to strike passing vehicles.

Nicholas Ibarra, 35, of East Palo Alto, was arrested after the deputy approached Ibarra, who allegedly attacked the deputy, causing him facial injuries, to which he received medical attention at a nearby hospital, according to a San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office press release.

During an investigation, police learned that Ibarra allegedly committed a series of crimes earlier in the day, including robbery, burglary, and attempted kidnapping of a staff member at a local coffee shop, according to the release.
