A convicted felon on parole was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 27, after police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle.

When deputies conducted a search of the vehicle at roughly 2 p.m., they allegedly located a loaded firearm in the man’s possession, according to a San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Police said Jose Guadalupe Gaytan, 32, of Redwood City, was allegedly in a car on Warrington Avenue, violating a restraining order prohibiting his presence in the area.

San Mateo County Assistant District Attorney Sean Gallagher said Gaytan already has a previous felony strike and was last convicted to 16 months in state prison in September 2023 for criminal threats, to which he was released after serving eight months for time served credit and good behavior.

Gaytan has been previously convicted of attempted robbery and intimidating a witness, according to the DA’s Office.

He was arrested and remains in custody on no bail status, according to the release.
