Good morning, Redwood City!
A very happy Veterans Day to all those in our community who served. The 10th annual Veterans Day Celebration is happening this morning at Courthouse Square. I’ll be there covering the event—if you see me, come say hi!
Another celebration took place yesterday just under Highway 101. The new pedestrian walkway, 10 years in the making, finally opened, much to the relief and delight of local residents. The mayor was joined by city council members, current and former commissioners, and local families for the official ceremony and ribbon-cutting. Getting from Bair Island to Downtown Redwood City has never been easier.
Finally, an internal review is underway to investigate actions by the Redwood City Police Department during an incident last week. You may have seen the video that was circulating on social media—now police are reviewing reports and body cam footage to make sure the use of force was appropriate. The altercation has revived frustrations between some community members and local law enforcement. You can read more about that here.
That’s all for the moment, but more stories coming your way. Think we missed something? Let us know!
Signing off,
Leah
