Kaiser Permanente's Redwood City hospital received tops marks in the biannual Hospital Safety Grades report, which reviewed close to 3,000 hospitals across the country, according to a hospital news release.

Redwood City was one of 15 hospitals in Northern California that were given an "A" score by the Leapfrog Group, including locations in San Francisco, San Jose, and Santa Clara. They were recognized for being "among the country’s best for outstanding patient safety, positive outcomes, and patient experience," according to a news release.

“These safety scores highlight the high-quality health care that Kaiser Permanente provides to the Redwood City and the mid-Peninsula communities,” said Sheila Gilson, RN and hospital executive. “Kaiser Permanente Redwood City has received a Leapfrog A grade since 2017. This continued recognition is an honor, and it reflects the skill and dedication of our physicians, nurses and staff on behalf of our patients.”

The Leapfrog Group, which led the hospital review, is a national, independent watchdog organization that is dedicated to pushing for "safety, quality, and affordability of U.S. health care." Leapfrog reviewed all publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors and infections at U.S. hospitals, then assigned each hospital an A, B, C, D or F grade for their safety records. The resulting report includes data collected by national health care organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. According to Leapfrog, the grades are released as a free resource to help patients and their families make informed health care decisions.

“Our physicians and staff use advanced technology — with the highest safety standards — while delivering exceptional care with warmth and compassion,” said Dr. Grace Firtch, Physician-in-Chief, Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center, in a press release. “Receiving high marks from The Leapfrog Group is a testament to Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to quality health care and patient safety.”
