Good morning, Redwood City!

First an apology—yesterday's email was an accidental repeat of Friday's. Below is what was supposed to be sent yesterday morning, with a bit extra. One other correction: The caption on Monday's Photo of the Day should have been "Broadway at sunset. Photo by S. Hollis Johnson."

Fighting fire

Long, hot, fast-moving wildfires are the now the norm in California. This year, our state has already seen a total of 5,184 blazes and an estimated 181,252 acres burned—and the numbers are quickly growing. With wildfire season just beginning, local firefighters are being dispatched around the state, traveling hundreds of miles from their homes to join the effort.

I spoke with Captain Brian Steach of the Redwood City Fire Department who led a four-person crew for a week at the Oak Fire in Mariposa County. Read about their experience—and see some incredible photos—here.

Sequoia speaks out

About a month ago, dozens of Sequoia Trailer Park residents met with county officials to air their grievances about a long list of code violations they'd recently received. Facing high fines for what they considered small infractions (and fearing eviction if they don't comply), tenants painted a bigger picture of unsafe and unhealthy living conditions in the trailer park.

Now, residents are again taking action. Tomorrow, they will gather for a rally to demand a halt on all minor inspections and fines until the park's infrastructure improvements—sewage, electricity, etc—are completed.

I'll be there reporting on the events. Stay tuned!

Your reporter,

Leah
