Good morning, Redwood City!
We had a little glitch in the system yesterday, and Wednesday’s Express was sent out a second time. The caption for the photo of the day was also incorrect. (Thanks to everyone who reads close enough to notice!) Below is the corrected newsletter:
Swat or not
Wednesday was a bit of a strange day for several schools around the Peninsula. I first heard about the “commotion” (as he described it) from a community member who called me to ask what was happening near Woodside High School where he’d seen a line of emergency vehicles, lights flashing. (Thanks for the tip!)
Almanac reporter Angela Swartz jumped on the story and found that the school lockdown, which was triggered by reports of a possible active shooter, was a false alarm. The call was confirmed to be a hoax. Oddly enough, South San Francisco High School and Lincoln High School in San Jose received similar “swatting” calls Wednesday morning. And yes, submitting a false report to law enforcement is illegal.
You can read Angela’s story here—we’ll update as any additional information comes in.
Elections portal
With ballots out and less than a month until Election Day, it’s time to start casting those votes. To help you navigate this year’s election, we’ve put together a portal with voter guides, candidate profiles, debate recaps and more.
Check it out—and let us know if there’s anything you think we’ve missed or that you’d like us to look into.
Happy Friday, and enjoy your weekend!
Your reporter,
Leah
