Good afternoon, Redwood City!

New year, new wages

The minimum wage is going up in Redwood City in the new year. Starting Jan. 1, all employees working two or more hours a week in Redwood City will be entitled to a minimum of $17 per hour. The new amount is up slightly from the $16.20 minimum implemented last January.

This is part of an update to the city’s minimum wage ordinance, which also:

  • Sets a 5% cap on the annual increase in the minimum wage
  • Includes a Consumer Price Index (CPI) catch-up provision to allow wages to realign with inflation in later years
  • Rounds the wage to the nearest five cents
