October 18, 1947 – July 1, 2023
Juing-Liang Ou, fondly known as "John", was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband and father. He passed away surrounded by his family members on July 1, 2023.
Juing-Liang was born on October 18, 1947, in Tainan City, Taiwan. He was the eldest of four children. He attended National Taiwan University and studied structure engineering. He completed his master's degree at the University of Rhode Island. During this time, his father passed away, and he started supporting his mother and three younger siblings. He married Mayling in Chicago on July 23, 1977. Soon after, they packed their belongings in Juing-Liang's yellow Volkswagen beetle and moved across the country to San Francisco.
While working in San Francisco, Juing-Liang worked on several public projects, including the Chinese Pavilion at Golden Gate Park's Stow Lake. They moved to Belmont in 1985 and he started his own business, John Ou and Associates, soon after. His projects at this time included the Belmont Village complex at the intersection of El Camino Real and Ralston Avenue.
Juing-Liang now joins his parents, Shu-Sheng and Sway-Yue, and his sister, Zhen-Zhen. He is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Mayling; his daughter, Adrienne; his sister, Cang-Rong; his brother, Chun-Lin; and the rest of the extended Ou family in Taiwan and the United States. We all miss him dearly, and we hope that wherever he is, he has every sugary delight he could ever want to bide the time until we see him again.
A memorial service will be held at the Crippen and Flynn Carlmont Chapel in Belmont, CA on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
