The arraignment of a 27-year-old Redwood City man who investigators said beat a woman so severely she nearly lost consciousness was reset to Thursday, San Mateo County prosecutors said.

Sergio Hurtadodominguez was taken into custody last Wednesday after sheriff's deputies said he fled after attacking his ex-girlfriend.

He has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, criminal threats, robbery, domestic battery and kidnapping. He faces life imprisonment, according to prosecutors.

Investigators said the woman had broken her relationship off with Hurtadodominguez in November, but he continued to threaten her via text messages. On Wednesday, Hurtadodominguez found the woman outside El Grullense restaurant eating in her car, investigators said. The 27-year-old reportedly opened the car door, pulled her out of the car and dragged her to his home, which was around the corner. He's accused of repeatedly hitting the woman and choking her nearly causing her to lose consciousness. He then took her keys, cell phone and fled the scene, according to San Mateo County officials. The woman's eye was swollen shut and she was bleeding from her nose and mouth, investigators reported.

The California Highway Patrol stopped Hurtadodominguez in Monterey County, and he was arrested and booked into Maguire Correctional Facility
