Good morning Redwood City!
Last night before bed, I downloaded an app called Choose Local San Mateo County. It's a free app that you can download on your phone via the App Store, and it enables users to go around town collecting redeemable reward points just by doing what they'd normally do – eat, shop and have fun. Admittedly, I haven't used it much, but I plan on testing it out this weekend to discover places I've never visited. The app, which was developed by Colu Technologies, is the brainchild of San Mateo County officials who said they wanted a way to help support small business owners in the post-pandemic recovery phase. So if you end up checking out the app, let me know what you think. I'll be following along and testing it myself.
The San Mateo County sheriff is backpedaling this week on comments he made one week ago at the TRUTH Act Forum, where he gave supervisors an update on the department's continued practice of voluntarily transferring convicted immigrants to ICE custody. After listening to dozens and dozens of comments from San Mateo County residents who were overwhelmingly against the practice, Sheriff Carlos Bolanos changed his tune. On Tuesday, Bolanos said it was in the best interest of the sheriff's department to stop the voluntary transfers to ICE so that he could keep the county safe.
What do you think?
In weather: so far, the day has been lovely, with slightly cool breezes and lots of sunshine and an occasional patch of clouds here and there.
Signing off,
Michelle
