Good morning, Redwood City!

It was with mixed feelings that the Redwood City Fire Department announced yesterday the retirement of one of their most senior officers.

Battalion Chief Dan Abrams, who served for over four decades and worked in every fire station in the Department, said his farewells on Facebook.

“On December 28th, I will hang up my turnouts for the last time. I started as a Volunteer, and after 41 years in this incredible profession, I made my way to this moment,” Abrams wrote. “We have been down the hottest and darkest of hallways, or twisted and stuffed into a vehicle, or on a knee at a patient’s side.”

More on his tenure—and bittersweet departure—here.

Perhaps you're wondering, will this rain ever stop? And the answer is: yes, but not quite yet.

According to the latest reports, Redwood City will see a bit more rain today and tomorrow, with chilly temperatures sticking around through the weekend. Luckily for us, a break is on the horizon, with New Year’s Day expected to bring sun and mostly clear skies.

Until then, forecasters advise all Bay Area residents to watch out for minor flooding, since new showers are falling on already-soaked ground.

Happy Tuesday…and stay tuned for more stories coming your way.

Signing off,

Leah

P.S. Any Redwood City residents stuck somewhere because of snow and road closures? We want to hear from you.
