Good morning, Redwood City!
As of today, all students and teachers are back in school, rising COVID-19 cases notwithstanding.
The San Mateo County Office of Education announced last week that it’s working diligently, and in collaboration with other local and state officials, to "support safe in-person learning for both students and staff." The County also received rapid tests from the state health department for student use in the first weeks after the winter break. More on that here.
Redwood City, however, is taking new precautions after a significant increase in positive COVID-19 cases over the last couple of weeks. City Hall and indoor gyms will close through the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Jan. 17.
If you, like me, have been absolutely riveted by the Elizabeth Holmes trial, you likely already know the verdict—guilty of four counts of defrauding investors of nearly $145 million.
First made famous for her purportedly groundbreaking blood-testing technology, Holmes saw her company, and her reputation, plummet in the wake of damning investigations. All the latest on that wild story here.
Here’s to a happy, healthy start to the new year!
Signing off,
Leah
