Good morning, Redwood City!

A new pilot program will give Redwood City residents the opportunity to decide the fate of $1 million in city funds.

As part of the participatory budget program, people are encouraged to submit and vote on ideas for a city-funded project that will be implemented this summer. “The People’s Budget,” as it’s called, is part of an effort to increase transparency and community involvement in city spending.

“I'm really excited to hear the ideas that come out,” said Briana Evans, the city’s Equity and Inclusion Officer. “I trust in the creativity of our community, and folks knowing what would make their lives better and make the lives of their neighbors better.”

Stay tuned for public informational sessions about the new program. And don't forget to submit your ideas to the online portal.

For the true crime-inclined, don't miss the latest from our crime files. Read about the Payless Store Murders, one of the most infamous, and still unsolved, triple homicides in San Mateo County's history, here.

Happy Thursday, and Feliz Día de Reyes to all who celebrate!

Signing off,

Leah
