Good morning, Redwood City!
Last week, the state of California revised their COVID-19 regulations for workplaces. Among the changes are that tests can no longer be self-administered, masks must be surgical (or sufficiently thick) and vaccinated asymptomatic people must be sent home if exposed.
Because supplemental COVID sick leave ended in September, workers now have to use their personal days when isolating at home. I've heard from many teachers who are frustrated by this—and they're not the only ones. Some California legislators are actively working to bring extra sick days back. More on that here.
Yesterday the California Teachers Association pledged their support of Mayor Giselle Hale California State Assembly. It was also announced that Hale, who announced her bid for Assembly District 21 just over a week ago, has so far raised upwards of $216,000 for her campaign.
You can read more about Hale and her decision to run for higher office here.
Lastly—it's that time of week. We've got a new story from our crime blogger, this one involving a very fortuitous eyewitness…
Happy Thursday!
Signing off,
Leah
