Good morning, Redwood City!

Last night the City Council did not advance a new map for redistricting Redwood City.

After deliberating on five proposed maps, including three submitted by the public, the council voted to postpone their decision until the next meeting. Among the points raised were prioritizing resident diversity, minimizing disruption to the current districts and including the mobile home parks in the Friendly Acres neighborhood.

“I've been working with the mobile home parks since the late 80s,” said former mayor Diane Howard. “I know that they feel very much a part of Friendly Acres; they go to their neighborhood meetings; they shop at Marsh Manor; they feel a part of that community…For me, it was very important to identify a map that was encompassing the mobile home parks as part of a bigger community where they felt very much at home.”

This is the final stage of the redistricting process, which happens every ten years, and will conclude by mid-April. More on that to come—stay tuned!

And for now, have a very happy Tuesday.

Signing off,

Leah
