Good morning, Redwood City!

For the past several weeks, the Redwood City Pulse and Palo Alto Weekly newsrooms have been collaborating on a story about a dangerous and growing problem affecting cities throughout the Bay Area: ghost guns.

Reporters Leah Worthington and Sue Dremann spoke with law enforcement officials in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties about the significant rise in ghost guns—weapons without a serial number that have been hand-built, often from kits. These firearms have been used in many recent crimes throughout the area.

Ghost guns are difficult to track, and legal loopholes have made them tricky to regulate. Legislators at the federal, state and local levels are pursuing new ways to close gaps in legislation and add new regulations.

We plan to do more stories like this—deep reporting on wide-reaching issues—and look forward to hearing your thoughts. You can read the entire story here.

Enjoy your Thursday…more to come!

Signing off,

Leah & Michelle
