Good morning, Redwood City!

A Grecian Tower

We've got a great story from our history blogger for you today.

Nearly 90 years ago, Redwood City made national headlines when 20,000 people came out to see the completion of a distinctly Greek-looking structure. Also known as the Pulgas Water Temple, the cement tower commemorated the arrival of freshwater from the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

The history and photos are pretty incredible—check them out here.

State of the City

On Monday, March 14, Mayor Giselle Hale will deliver her State of the City address. This year, she has said she will dedicate the entire address to housing and homelessness in Redwood City, which she called “pretty exceptional.”

“I really want people to understand how it is that we got here, what it is that we're doing and what people can do to help,” she told the Pulse. You can catch her remarks starting at 6 p.m. Monday.

Speaking of homelessness, we've heard from many of you who want to know more about what's happening in the homeless encampments where recent fires and subsequent clean-ups have been happening. We've got a story on that coming soon.

For now, enjoy your Friday! And look out for those blue lights in downtown Redwood City.
