Good morning, Redwood City!

Wonder what it would be like to lead the city for a day? Two lucky elementary and middle school students will have the opportunity to find out.

Redwood City just announced the "Mayor for a Day" contest, which is open to submissions (in English or Spanish) from all elementary and middle school students in the city. Mayor Giselle Hale will read all essays and select the winners, who will be recognized during the May 9 city council meeting. Essays are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

Another great tool is coming to local students. This week, the San Mateo County Libraries and Redwood City Public Library announced the launch of "Empower Cards," which are designed to give students easier access to library resources like online tutoring, eBooks and language-learning apps.

According to District Supervisor Warren Slocum: “Empower Cards break down barriers to library access and address inequities in resources by sending library cards directly to families. These cards will open the door to an incredible amount of online and in-person resources.”

Lastly, don't miss this week's story from the crime files. Today our blogger writes about "an unsolved cold case murder that still has police guessing." Spooky…

Happy Thursday!

Leah
