Troubled Youth?
The Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Commission is exploring solutions to address the inequities that youth, specifically low-offending, low-income, BIPOC youth, face when they are arrested and placed into the juvenile justice system. The commission is discussing ways to develop and implement a county-wide diversion program for these youth. While some cities in San Mateo County have diversion programs, others don't. Each city has its way of dealing with the arrested children—some end up having criminal records, and others don't. The commission plans to discuss the county-wide diversion program later this month.
