Good morning, Redwood City!

From jail to jobs

On Tuesday, I stopped by the Maple Street Correctional Center to check out the county's inaugural in-house job fair. For half an hour, eight inmates had the opportunity to interview one-on-one with employers like Starbucks and Trader Joe's in the hopes of finding stable employment upon their release. It was a pretty cool event—check out our story for pictures and details.

Get involved

Want to make your voice heard in local government? Redwood City has extended the deadline to apply to serve on Boards, Commissions and Committees until this Sunday, May 22 at 11:59 p.m. There are openings across the board—from the Police Advisory Committee to the Arts Commission to the Library Board. More details and application instructions here.

Crime time

In this week's dispatch from the crime files, our blogger writes about a burglary spree that involved tens of thousands of dollars worth of stolen jewelry, furs and more. Dig in here.

More coming your way soon…

Happy Thursday!
