Good morning, Redwood City!

Counting the unhoused

The results of this year's one-day homeless count have been published, and the numbers are, perhaps unsurprisingly, high. According to an official report, 1,808 people are experiencing homelessness throughout San Mateo County, with an increase in 21% of the number who are currently unsheltered.

County officials, like Ken Cole, director of the County’s Human Services Agency, were quick to assure the public that, “While the numbers went up, we believe the situation could be much worse without the supports we have put in place due to the impacts of the pandemic." You can read more on the latest results below.

Holiday festivities

Don't miss the Memorial Day event being held at Union Cemetery this Monday. The ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m., is back after a two-year pandemic hiatus and will include several speakers as well as music and the traditional firing on the anvil. More details here.

Enjoy your long weekend (if you have one!), and stay healthy.

Happy Friday!

Leah
