Good morning!
It's been a long week… and yes, yes, I know it's Wednesday.
Stars & Stripes
We're just days away from the Redwood City Fourth of July Parade. I'm told that it was once called the biggest Fourth of July Parade west of the Mississippi. These years, not so much. But last week, I had the pleasure of speaking with parade organizer Regina Kipp. She and two other volunteers were busy with last-minute details related to the parade and festival. The volunteers begin planning the celebration in February and work right up until July 4th. It's a thankless job, but Regina says she loves it. More on that to come.
Which reminds me… Those loud bangs you're hearing are most likely fireworks. As we get closer and closer to Independence Day, it sounds like it will continue to happen. But fireworks related activity can lead to fines of up to $1,000.
Children are our future
For the past few months, I have followed the folks at the San Mateo County Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention Commission. Once a month, the commissioners meet to discuss ways to prevent children from entering the juvenile justice system. The group conducts inspections at juvenile detention facilities, participates in outreach projects, and talks to local law enforcement jurisdictions. They are always looking for new commissioners, so if you're interested, apply here.
More news to come.
