Good morning, Redwood City!

Water woes

Wondering what Redwood City’s stage 2 water shortage emergency means for you? We did a bit of a research to find out. Here’s a short primer on what caused the emergency declaration, how to comply with it and what comes next.

For those who were curious, we also looked into the city's recycled water program, including results from the recent public survey. (Spoiler: Very low participation!)

Panel on policing

Yesterday, our very own police chief Dan Mulholland was one of four featured speakers in a panel on building better law enforcement-community relations. Among the topics discussed were over-policing of people of color, law enforcement on school campuses and recent incidents in Redwood City's downtown area.

Mulholland talked a lot about how he's working to engage Redwood City's youth, which he says has already slowed vandalism, fireworks and other disruptive behavior. Other speakers were less optimistic about the role of police in addressing community issues.

I captured highlights from the event on Twitter—stay tuned for a story.

That's all for now. Happy Tuesday!

Leah
