Good morning, Redwood City!

More evictions

Wondering about all the activity near the onramp to 101 at Woodside Road? As I found out yesterday, that spot was the target of another homeless encampment cleanup this week—and it’s not the last one. More Caltrans crews are onsite just up the road, clearing out a second encampment this morning. Several other evictions are planned throughout next week.

This is a really harrowing experience for our unhoused populations. (You can read more about what evictions look like here.) I’ll be checking in with the homeless outreach workers who are out there every day trying to get people into safe housing. Stay tuned for updates.

Upcoming events

Lots of activities in the next few days:

  • ART on the Square is hosting another show at Courthouse Square featuring 20 artists and three community booths. That's today from 5-8:30 p.m.
  • The Pulse will be at the Kiwanis Farmers Market tomorrow from 8 a.m. til noon. I’d love to meet you!
  • Sr. Christina Heltsley of St. Francis Center is organizing an Advocacy March at Redwood City Hall just before Monday evening's council meeting. From 5:30-5:50 p.m., advocates will gather in support of the Harbor View development project.
  • The upcoming city council meeting is a big one. With discussions planned around Harbor View and replacing Council member Michael Smith (among other things), we’re expecting a lot of attendees and public comments.

Lastly: Thank you again to everyone who shared their stories about the ongoing power outages in Emerald Hills. You can read our just-published article on the issue here. Feel free to continue to reach out if more disruptions or questions arise.

That’s all for now. Enjoy your weekend!
