City Council Agenda
Today is a big day for newcomer Elmer Martinez Saballos, as the city council will swear him into office as the district 4 council member this evening after a public reception. They will then turn around and assign him to various tasks and committees, the same ones that former council member Michael Smith was in, including the communications subcommittee and the council equity and social justice subcommittee.
The city is also interviewing applicants for two important commissions, including the Housing and Human Concerns Commission and the Planning Commission. There are eight applicants for the former and 10 applicants for the latter, including one person the city interviewed at a special meeting in June.
The police department has been looking at ways to connect with kids, especially those it said have been causing a stir in the downtown area. That's why it has teamed up with PAL to provide coaching, mentorship and host afterschool opportunities to some of these kids throughout the school year. The ACE project cost is $350,000, but the city said it had received a grant from Silicon Valley Community Foundation for $230,000. It plans to pass this on its consent agenda.
