Good morning, Redwood City!
Strikes
Kaiser mental health therapists have been striking for more than a month and, over the weekend, rejected Kaiser Permanente's contract offer. The union said the latest proposal ignores issues the union has been pushing back on for months. Kaiser, in a statement, told us that if it budges, the move will be at a cost to mental health patients. More here.
Meanwhile, SFO restaurant workers have been striking since Monday. They took to TikTok and Twitter this week to send messages to employer groups, SFO officials and Gov. Gavin Newsom. So, if you're planning a trip out of town this week, bring your own food. We'll have more on that later.
Huskies at the shelter
One thing that has always been near and dear to my heart–and this is very true– is animal rescue. I have been fostering, adopting, rescuing and sheltering dogs since 2017 and Hurricane Harvey. I find it appalling when someone dumps a dog at a shelter simply because… So when I heard that the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA is experiencing a considerable number of huskies being dropped off or dumped, it upset me. Huskies are tough breeds. They are loud, energetic, and need a lot of attention. Not everyone should own one. That being said, they are brilliant dogs. Absolutely gorgeous, and if properly trained, they are loyal and will forever be your best friend. If you feel you have the time and the energy for a husky, visit the shelter and adopt one. You can view the dogs here. Story here.
We have a lot more news coming your way!
