Good afternoon, Redwood City!

Post-Election Night

It was a busy night for city council candidates, as many of them attended watch parties across Redwood City Tuesday. We spoke to them and will be talking to them throughout the day and likely throughout the week. The closest nail-biter race is in district 2, where Housing and Human Concerns Committee Chair Margaret Becker leads San Mateo County LGBTQ+ Commissioner Chris Sturken by just 42 votes. Meanwhile, Diane Howard appears to be our next district 6 council member, leading Jerome Madigan by nearly 1,000 votes. But he has no plans to concede, he says. The next update will be tomorrow afternoon. We'll keep you posted. For now, check out our district 2 election story here and our district 6 story here.

District 15

In the race to replace retiring U.S. Jackie Speier, California Assembly Speaker pro Tem Kevin Mullin glided to victory over San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa, who conceded just after the polls closed Tuesday night. He then congratulated Mullin and thanked his team.

School bonds win

Sequoia Union High School District's Measure W passes with overwhelming voter support at 60%, while Redwood City School District's Measure S is passing, but just barely at 56.6%. The measure requires a 55% majority to pass.

More election news to come.
