Good afternoon, Redwood City!

Reimagining SamTrans

Why did SamTrans recently eliminate service– the only bus route– to San Mateo County's juvenile court, juvenile probation and juvenile hall? This vital route provides service to families –many of who are underserved–to San Mateo County's Youth Services Center, where children in the juvenile justice system are housed. This center is where children in the system receive visitations from their families, child protection services, private public defender services, to name a few services. The route now ends at Ralston Avenue and Alameda de las Pulgas, meaning that anyone who needs to get to the YSC would need to walk 2.7 miles uphill. The issue was discussed Tuesday night at the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission meeting. Commissioners plan to send a letter to SamTrans urging them to reopen the route.

Tree lighting returns

The city will light up on Saturday and bring holiday cheer to downtown Redwood City! You won't want to miss the lighting of two giant Christmas trees. Everything starts at 6 p.m.

More news to come. Have a great Wednesday!
