San Carlos resident and graduate student Lily Hartzell on Thursday will share her first-hand experiences from when she served as a delegate at the most recent COP27 UN Climate Conference in Egypt.

During the free program, which will be taking place at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Redwood City (UUFRC), Hartzell will describe how delegates from around the world ultimately decided to establish a "loss and damage" fund to aid developing nations that are most impacted by climate disasters, as well as discuss how the U.S. will be participating in this significant agreement.

In addition, Hartzell will also compare the conference in Egypt with the COP26 conference that occurred previously in Glasgow — which Hartzell also attended.

Hartzell is currently working on her MA in Climate Diplomacy at Tufts University. The grad student was appointed as a delegate by the national Unitarian-Universalist Association and is also currently an editor for The Forum, which is a Tufts University Foreign Affairs publication.

The program will be moderated by long-time environmental activist and UUFRC member Debbie Mytels. The event will take place on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The event will be available to attend either in person or via Zoom. The Zoom details can be found below.
