Good morning, Redwood City.

Yesterday, I was standing outside a Farm Hill home just feet from where FBI crime investigators were shoveling mounds of dirt looking for clues in the 1996 disappearance of a Palo Alto woman named Ylva Hagner behind a wooden fence, speaking to a neighbor and discussing how the city and its residents have been through a lot lately. In the last few months, the city has been dealing with a recent shooting, cyclists' safety on the road, the financial stability of our city and the transition of the chief law enforcement officer. We've seen multiple developments be approved and pop up all over town. And at the recent council meeting, members discussed the possibility of opening up our downtown area to biotech labs for R&D. There's a lot of change in Redwood City. We hope to be there to capture it all.

Shoutout to my former reporter Leah Worthington, who, along with my colleagues Angela Swartz and Zoe Morgan, won first place in the Youth and Education category of the California Journalism Awards for their story on California school start times. You can re-read that story here

And a special thanks to our former true crime blogger Douglas MacGowan, who gave us this photo of a Redwood City Oak Tree photo.

Have a great Thursday!

Michelle
