The Redwood City Police Department plans to initiate a seat belt enforcement operation on June 1 and 2 aimed at drivers and passengers not adhering to seat belt regulations, including those on child safety seats.

In a statement issued by Sgt. Rich Santiago, RCSD Traffic Division Supervisor, emphasized the importance of buckling up.

"Buckling up is your best defense in the event of a crash, and only takes a few seconds."

Santiago also highlighted the critical role of car seats in ensuring child safety, urging motorists to ensure children are appropriately secured in the correct car seat.

According to California law, children under two years old, weighing under 40 pounds or less than 40 inches in height, are required to be secured in a rear-facing car seat. Additionally, children under the age of eight or less than 4’9” in height must be securely fastened in a car or booster seat.
