November 3, 1942 – June 25, 2023
David Richard Rahn passed away surrounded by his family on June 25, 2023. He was born in Granite City, Illinois to Mary and Boyd Rahn, then spent his childhood years in Peoria alongside his siblings Rex, John, and Mary Angela. Dave attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1964.
After college, Dave moved out to California and began work as an Investment Advisor with his uncle John Licata. He then worked for Bailard, Biehl and Kaiser before co-founding Avalon Capital Management with Bill Oberman and Clara Basile where he worked for the remainder of his career. He loved his work and his colleagues, spending most of his free time studying the stock market, as it was not just his job, but his favorite hobby as well.
Dave was a lifelong fan and dedicated supporter of Notre Dame, never missing a football game and cheering them on in person whenever possible. He attended many reunions in South Bend and looked forward to seeing his college roommate Jack Kemps whenever possible. He also volunteered with his local Kiwanis chapter and enjoyed weekly Bridge games with his card group, even stepping up as a fill-in with his wife Lucy's Bridge group when needed. He was always in the middle of a good book, particularly political thrillers and science fiction novels, and usually had a good recommendation up his sleeve. Dave was a kind, gentle man with a quick wit and dry sense of humor. He could discuss just about anything, and loved sharing the exploits of his five grandchildren with anyone who would listen.
Dave is survived by his wife Lucy, his son David and daughter-in-law Grace, daughter Mary and son-in-law Chris, his grandchildren Jack, Sean, David, Will, James, and his dog Luna.
