January 30, 1929 – July 20, 2023
Richard (Dick) Hogan passed away peacefully at his San Carlos home July 20, 2023, at the age of 94 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Milwaukee on Jan.30, 1929, to the late Leo and Agnes Hogan.
Dick earned his degree in civil engineering from Marquette University in 1950 and in 1951 he married his high school sweetheart and first love, Joan Trecker, who passed away in 1993 after nearly 42 years of marriage and six children.
In 1995, he married the Second Love of His Life (who should be so lucky), Ramona Rodriguez. Mona passed away in 2019 after 24 very happy years.
In his professional career, Dick spent more than 40 years as regional sales manager for Verco Mfg., Inc., selling structural steel products all over the West Coast.
Dick volunteered for many community services, most notably San Carlos youth baseball and St. Charles School athletics, not only with his own children but for years afterwards helping girls and boys learn the softball and baseball fundamentals.
As a lifelong devoted Catholic, Dick was an active member of St. Charles Parish in San Carlos. He never missed Mass or any special parish event and served as President of the St. Charles School Board for several years as president of ICF.
Dick had two happy places: Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae was a place he enjoyed golfing with his good friends and socializing over a glass of wine and dinner. He served as Green Hills President and continued his membership long after he stopped playing golf.
Dick's other happy place was the family cabin in Big Sur, where family times were precious to all — but especially to the family patriarch: There were no TVs, phones, or other modern distractions and his large family enjoyed each other's company and that of the many friends who would "just happen by." All were welcome!
His many wisdoms and love will be missed by all of those who survive him. He was lovingly welcomed into heaven by Joan and Mona.
Dick is survived by his six children, John (Jane) Hogan, Kathryn/Kiki (William) Harke, Peter (Emily) Hogan, William Hogan, Mary/Muffy (David) Grigsby, and Julie (Mike) Isola. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his beloved sister, Mary Cody. He is further survived by Mona's four children, Frank (Patty) Rodriguez, Lou (Tracy) Rodriguez, Lisa (Jim) Hora and Rick Rodriguez, Mona's nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan House of San Mateo or St. Vincent de Paul St. Charles Conference.
A funeral Mass for Richard Hogan will be said at St. Charles Church in San Carlos on Tuesday, Sept. 5th, 2023, at 11 a.m.
