Bruce Marshall McWilliams, PhD, 67, passed away restfully on September 22, 2023 in the presence of family and close friends due to complications from an acute health event. Dr. McWilliams was a Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he founded The McWilliams Center for Cosmology. Bruce is a former CEO of Tessera (Xperi) and led that company to its successful IPO in 2003.

He was a serial entrepreneur and served on multiple Corporate Boards. Highlights of his life and career can be found at Bruce McWilliams – Wikipedia. Bruce is survived by his sister, Melanie (McWilliams) Hildreth, brothers, Tom and Stephen McWilliams; sons, Jared and Gabriel McWilliams with their mother, Astrid (Almon) McWilliams; and daughters, Ariana and Roxana McWilliams with their mother, Maryam (Hashemi) McWilliams. Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Henry McWilliams, and mother, Emily Jeanne (Marshall) McWilliams. Bruce loved to hike, bicycle, and ponder the inception of the cosmos.

He will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park, in a private ceremony. A Celebration of Life event will be held for his family and many friends in the future.
