Good morning, Redwood City.

Today, we recognize Indigenous People's Day and honor the memories and stories of Indigenous American peoples.

We're following a story about the recent discovery of a Native American burial ground below a development near downtown Redwood City. During the construction of the Elco Yards project, worker crews discovered skeletal remains that could be centuries old. The discovery was made between 2022 and 2023. The City and developer IQHQ are currently withholding details, citing state laws protecting archaeological findings. Historically, the area was known for an ancient shell mound, a type of native burial site. Elco Yards, officially known as the South Main Mixed-Use Project, is a $600 million development spanning 8.3 acres across six blocks. We'll have more on this story later.

The city council plans to meet tonight. Remember that if you want to send a comment, email the council before 5 p.m. to publiccomment@redwoodcity.org or arrive in person to comment at the following location: 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA 94063. Here is tonight's agenda

Thank you to Gato K. Rivera for his photo.
