Good morning, Redwood City,
Today, we celebrate the first day of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican holiday dedicated to honoring and welcoming back the spirits of our loved ones. To do this, Mexican families place altars adorned with photos, food, drinks and other favorite items of the departed on the altar as a a way to honor their memory. In this way, we invite the spirits to visit us on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
On Sunday, Nov. 5, Courthouse Square will liven up with the sounds of the Mayan culture to celebrate and honor Día de los Muertos. Scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. at Courthouse Square, the annual festivity has been a staple in Redwood City since it began in 2011. Starting at 6:00 p.m., guests of honor will initiate the event with a welcome speech and procession. Hope to see you there!
